This advanced device integrates a 700V power MOSFET, an oscillator, a high-voltage switched current source, and current limit and thermal shutdown circuitry onto a single monolithic chip. By deriving its start-up and operating power directly from the voltage on the DRAIN pin, it eliminates the need for a bias winding and its associated circuitry, simplifying design and reducing component count.
The TinySwitch-II incorporates several intelligent features for robust performance, including auto-restart, line undervoltage sensing, and frequency jittering. An innovative design minimises audio frequency components within its simple ON/OFF control scheme, practically eliminating audible noise even with standard taped or varnished transformer construction.
