The POWER INTEGRATIONS TOP224YN is a second-generation TOPSwitch-II offline PWM switch, delivering a highly cost-effective and simplified solution for switch-mode power supplies. Housed in a robust 3-pin TO-220 package, it integrates all necessary control functions—including a high-voltage power MOSFET, PWM controller, and comprehensive fault protection—onto a single monolithic CMOS chip. This integration drastically reduces component count and simplifies board layout, making your design process faster and more reliable.

A key advantage is its built-in auto-restart and current-limiting features, enhancing system durability. It supports both primary-side and opto-isolated feedback configurations, offering design flexibility for various applications. With an output power of up to 75W from a single-voltage AC input (100/115/230VAC) and 45W from a wide-range input (85-265VAC), it provides versatile power delivery. Its high 100kHz switching frequency and a duty cycle range from 1.7% to 67% allow for efficient power conversion in multiple topologies, including flyback, forward, boost, or buck configurations.

Engineered for efficiency and reliability, the TOP224YN boasts very low AC/DC losses with efficiency up to 90%. It includes latching thermal shutdown for robust system-level protection and remains stable in both discontinuous and continuous conduction modes. A source-connected tab minimises electromagnetic interference (EMI), while its wide operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 150°C ensures performance in demanding environments.
