The PROWAVE PW0268 is a sophisticated ultrasonic sonar ranging integrated circuit, delivered in a compact 20-pin SSOP package. This IC simplifies the development of precise distance measurement and proximity sensing applications.
Key to its operation is an external tunable RC oscillator that automatically tracks and compensates for shifts in the transducer's resonant frequency caused by temperature changes. The fixed-gain preamplifier can be tailored to match varying transducer sensitivities, while the 32-step, time-controlled variable gain amplifier slope can be modified by adjusting the system clock frequency. An on-board comparator converts the analogue returning echo signal into a TTL-level digital signal, ready for direct interfacing with external microprocessors.
The integrated band-pass filters can be adjusted for custom applications by changing just a few external components, and the system clock frequency can be fine-tuned to control other operating parameters such as transmit pulse width and sample rate. The bi-directional I/O pin simplifies control functions for transmitting pulses and receiving echoes.
