Raspberry Pi Build HAT for LEGO® Technic™

Combine the power of Raspberry Pi with LEGO® Technic™ motors and sensors to build intelligent machines with virtually unlimited creative and educational potential. The Build HAT is a dedicated expansion board, designed for seamless integration into the LEGO® education ecosystem, specifically with SPIKE™ Prime, to deliver a unique, hands-on learning experience that bridges computing and physical engineering.

At its core, the Build HAT features four dedicated connectors for easily adding LEGO® motors and sensors. It is fully compatible with components from the popular LEGO® SPIKE™ portfolio, the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Robot Inventor Kit, and any other LEGO device utilising the standard LPF2 connector. This opens up a world of projects, from simple automated models to complex, programmable robots.

A key feature is the specially designed Python library, created to be accessible for both students and makers. This library simplifies the process of controlling motors and reading sensor data, allowing users to focus on coding logic and project design rather than low-level hardware communication.

The board incorporates an onboard RP2040 microcontroller (the same chip found in the Raspberry Pi Pico) which handles the low-level control of all connected LEGO® Technic devices. This efficient design allows your Raspberry Pi's main processor to concentrate on running your primary application code.

The Build HAT is designed to fit any Raspberry Pi model with a 40-pin GPIO header, ensuring broad compatibility across the Raspberry Pi family. Power is supplied via a 2.1mm barrel DC power connector (centre positive). By using the recommended Build HAT Power Supply (sold separately), you can conveniently power both your Raspberry Pi and all connected LEGO® devices from a single source, simplifying your setup (note: this power delivery method is not supported for the Raspberry Pi 400).
