The Raspberry Pi Global Shutter Camera is a specialised 1.6-megapixel camera designed to capture rapid motion without introducing the artefacts typical of rolling shutter cameras. This makes it ideally suited to fast-motion photography and machine vision applications, where even small amounts of distortion can seriously degrade inference performance.
Equipped with a Sony IMX296LQR-C sensor, the camera features a large pixel size of 3.45μm × 3.45μm, providing high light sensitivity. This allows the Global Shutter Camera to operate with short exposure times—as low as 30μs with adequate lighting—offering a significant advantage for high-speed photography.
The camera utilises the same C/CS-mount lens assembly as the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera, ensuring compatibility with a broad variety of lenses. Its lower resolution means that, with appropriate lens magnification, an image suitable for processing by a machine vision model can be captured natively. It is compatible with all Raspberry Pi models featuring a full-size CSI camera connector, though a separate connection cable is required for the Raspberry Pi 5.
Measuring just 36.5 mm × 26 mm × 13.5 mm and weighing only 51 grams, this compact module easily integrates into various projects.
