The RENESAS ICL7660SCBAZ is a high-efficiency, monolithic DC-DC voltage converter designed for transforming a positive input supply into a complementary negative output. This versatile integrated circuit operates over a wide input range of 1.5V to 12V, delivering a corresponding output from -1.5V to -12V with a maximum output current of 45mA. Its sophisticated design integrates a series DC power supply regulator, an RC oscillator, a voltage level translator, and four output power MOS switches into a compact SOIC-8 package.
A standout feature is the integrated frequency boost pin, which allows users to achieve a lower output impedance even when utilising smaller external capacitors, enhancing design flexibility. Remarkably, the converter requires only two non-critical external capacitors to perform both charge pump and charge reservoir functions, simplifying circuit design and reducing component count.
Beyond simple inverting, the ICL7660S is highly configurable. It can be connected to function as a voltage doubler, capable of generating up to 22.8V from a 12V input.
