The Solar Charger Shield V2.2 for Arduino is a stackable shield designed for Arduino-compatible platforms. It enables adaptive battery power management and acts as an efficient energy harvester, perfect for in-field charging applications in remote or portable projects.
This versatile shield supports a wide range of batteries with voltages between 3.0V and 4.2V, boosting their output to a stable 5V. For autonomous operation, you can pair it with a Li-ion battery and a solar panel to create a self-sustaining sensor unit, ideal for data logging, environmental monitoring, or off-grid IoT devices. The board can deliver a maximum current of up to 600mA, providing ample power for connected components.
A built-in Micro-USB connector allows for convenient battery charging from a standard USB power source. The board features intelligent battery status indication, with a red LED signalling that charging is in progress and a green LED indicating a full charge. For safety, it incorporates short-circuit protection and provides a continuous charge current of up to 900mA.
Designed with robust specifications, the shield accepts a USB input voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V and a solar input voltage range of 4.8V to 6V. It maintains excellent power quality with a ripple voltage of less than 100mV at 500mA. With a compact footprint of 68mm x 53mm, it neatly stacks onto your Arduino board without requiring excessive space.
