The SRAM Timekeeper 48T08 is an advanced 64Kbit (8Kb x 8) non-volatile static RAM integrated with a precision real-time clock. This versatile component is supplied in a 28-pin DIP package, offering a highly integrated, battery-backed memory and timing solution that is pin-for-pin and function compatible with the industry-standard DS1643.

Designed as a direct, non-volatile equivalent to any JEDEC standard 8K x 8 SRAM, it provides exceptional flexibility. It can be easily dropped into many existing ROM, EPROM, and EEPROM sockets, delivering the non-volatility of PROMs without the need for special WRITE timing or limitations on the number of WRITE cycles that can be performed.

The device combines an ultra-low-power SRAM, a real-time clock, a power-fail control circuit, and a battery into a single, robust package. It features BYTEWIDE RAM-like clock access for straightforward integration and uses BCD coding for the year, month, day, date, hours, minutes, and seconds, ensuring precise timekeeping with a typical accuracy of ±1 minute per month at 25°C.

For system reliability, it includes automatic power-fail chip deselect and WRITE protection, safeguarding data during voltage fluctuations. The supply voltage operates reliably from 4.75V to 5.5V, and a software-controlled clock calibration feature is included for high-accuracy applications, making it suitable for demanding timing scenarios.
