The STMicroelectronics Fixed and Adjustable LDO Voltage Regulator is a low drop positive voltage regulator capable of delivering up to 3A of output current. Designed to be pin-to-pin compatible with older 3-terminal adjustable regulators, this device provides improved performance regarding dropout voltage and output tolerance.
Unlike standard PNP regulators where a portion of the output current is wasted as quiescent current, this regulator directs the quiescent current into the load, thereby increasing overall efficiency. The dropout voltage is guaranteed at a maximum of 1.2V at the maximum output current, decreasing at lower loads. Stability is achieved with just a 10μF minimum capacitor.
