Logic 74HCT240 Octal Inverting Buffer, DIP-20 Package

The Logic 74HCT240 Octal Inverting Buffer is a high-performance, 3-state integrated circuit designed to improve both the performance and density of digital systems. This device functions as an octal buffer and line driver, ideal for interfacing with 3-state memory address drivers, clock drivers, and bus-oriented receivers and transmitters.

The device is organised as two separate 4-bit buffers/drivers, each with its own output-enable (OE) input. When the (OE) input is held low, the device passes inverted data from the A inputs to the Y outputs. When (OE) is high, the outputs are placed in a high-impedance state, making it perfect for bus-connected applications where multiple devices share a common line.

A key feature of this buffer is its compatibility with TTL voltage levels, allowing it to interface seamlessly with a wide range of legacy logic systems. The high-current outputs are capable of driving up to 15 low-power Schottky TTL (LSTTL) loads, providing excellent fan-out capability. With a typical propagation delay of just 12ns, it ensures fast and reliable signal transmission in time-critical applications.

The device is designed for low power consumption, with a maximum ICC of just 80µA and a maximum low input current of 1µA. It offers an output drive capability of ±6mA at 5V, ensuring robust signal integrity. Encased in a durable 20-pin Dual In-line Package (DIP), it is well-suited for prototyping, industrial control systems, and educational use.
