Texas Instruments CD4094BE CMOS 8-Stage Bus Register 8-Bit DIP-16

The Texas Instruments CD4094BE is an 8-stage CMOS shift-and-store bus register with 8-bit parallel outputs, designed for efficient serial data management in bus-oriented digital systems.

Overview

Each of the eight stages has an associated storage latch, so data can be strobed from the serial input to parallel buffered 3-state outputs. The parallel outputs can be connected directly to common bus lines, which makes the device suitable for bus-oriented digital designs. Data is shifted synchronously on positive clock transitions, supporting precise timing control. When the strobe input is at a high logic level, the information in each shift register stage is transferred to its dedicated storage register. The stored data appears at the outputs when the output-enable signal is high, giving control over data flow and bus contention.

Key Features

• 3-State Parallel Outputs: Enables direct connection to shared bus lines for multi-device communication.
• Dual Serial Outputs: The QS terminal provides data on positive clock edges, while the Q'S terminal presents the same serial information on the subsequent negative clock edge.
• Medium-Speed Operation: Capable of operating at frequencies up to 5 MHz with a 10 V supply.
• Package: DIP-16.

Cascading and Clock Conditions

The dual serial outputs accommodate different clock conditions. The QS terminal supports high-speed operation in cascaded systems with fast clock rise times, whereas the Q'S terminal supports cascading multiple CD4094BE devices in environments with slower clock rise times. This arrangement helps maintain signal integrity across a range of operating speeds.
