It incorporates an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register that feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register, providing flexible data handling. The storage register features parallel 3-state outputs, allowing for direct bus interfacing. Separate clock inputs are provided for the shift and storage registers, enabling precise control over data latching and shifting operations.
A key feature is the direct overriding clear (SRCLR) input, which resets the shift register. It also includes a serial (SER) input and serial outputs for easy cascading of multiple devices, enabling the expansion of output ports. When the output-enable (OE) input is held high, all outputs enter a high-impedance state, preventing bus contention. The device is designed for a wide operating voltage range from 2V to 6V, making it versatile for various system voltages.
