The VISHAY 6N139 is a high-speed, single-channel optocoupler designed for efficient and reliable signal isolation in digital circuits. It achieves a data rate of 100 kBaud with a remarkably low input current requirement, making it exceptionally suitable for low-power logic systems. Its innovative design couples an LED with an integrated, high-gain photodiode Darlington detector, delivering outstanding performance metrics including a high common-mode transient immunity and a very high current transfer ratio (CTR).
A key feature is the provision of separate pins for the photodiode and the output transistor stage. This architecture enables the attainment of TTL-compatible saturation voltages without sacrificing high-speed operation. Furthermore, direct access to the base terminal of the output transistor allows engineers to fine-tune the gain-bandwidth product, offering valuable flexibility in circuit design to optimise for speed or sensitivity.
The component provides robust electrical isolation, rated at 5300 Vrms, ensuring safe and reliable operation in environments with significant potential differences. It is housed in a standard 8-pin DIP (Dual In-line Package), facilitating easy prototyping and integration onto printed circuit boards (PCBs).
