The ATMEL 8-bit AVR Microcontroller is a low-power, high-performance RISC-based device featuring 32kB self-programming flash programme memory, 2kB SRAM, and 1kB EEPROM. Equipped with an 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter and a JTAG interface for on-chip debugging, this microcontroller achieves throughputs up to 16 MIPS at 16MHz.
The AVR core combines a rich instruction set with 32 general purpose working registers. All 32 registers are directly connected to the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), allowing two independent registers to be accessed in one single instruction executed in one clock cycle. The resulting architecture is more code efficient while achieving throughputs up to ten times faster than conventional CISC microcontrollers.
The on-chip ISP flash allows the programme memory to be reprogrammed in-system through an SPI serial interface, by a conventional non-volatile memory programmer, or by an on-chip boot programme running on the AVR core. It features an advanced RISC architecture with 131 powerful instructions, fully static operation, an on-chip 2-cycle multiplier, and high endurance non-volatile memory segments.
Additional features include an optional boot code section with independent lock bits, true read-while-write operation, and a programming lock for software security. With dimensions of 43 mm x 33 mm x 15 mm and a weight of 20 grams, it is suitable for compact applications requiring reliable through-hole mounting.
