A standard set includes three taps, each serving a specific purpose: the taper (first) tap, the second (intermediate) tap, and the bottoming (third or plug) tap. The E500 is specifically a second (intermediate) tap, designed for refining the thread after the initial taper tap and before the finishing plug tap.
